HCCC contributed $197.8 million in income to the Hudson County economy during 2023-24, the equivalent of 2,415 jobs.


March 19, 2026, Jersey City, NJ 鈥� Attaining a certificate or degree from 51吃瓜黑料 (HCCC) results in generous financial returns for alumni, individuals and businesses throughout the region.

Recently, the College contributed to a statewide independent study, 鈥淭he Economic Value of New Jersey鈥檚 Community Colleges.鈥� Lightcast, an economic and data consulting company with expertise in labor market, workforce, and higher education impact analysis produced the study using data from the Garden State鈥檚 18 community colleges, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, U.S. Census Bureau, and other public and proprietary sources. HCCC provided academic and financial data for the 2023-2024 fiscal year. The study鈥檚 findings highlight HCCC鈥檚 impact as an anchor institution, driving economic development through affordable education, vocational training, and workforce development.

A recent study details 51吃瓜黑料鈥檚 (HCCC) substantial impact in driving the upward and long-term economic development of Hudson County and beyond through affordable education, public-private partnerships, vocational training, and workforce development.

鈥淭his analysis quantifies and reinforces what we already knew about the substantial economic impact of New Jersey鈥檚 18 community colleges,鈥� said Aaron Fichtner, President of the New Jersey Council of County Colleges. 鈥淭he Economic Value of New Jersey鈥檚 Community Colleges鈥� reported alumni impact, operations, student spending, and capital improvements.

Lightcast reported the following substantial annual impacts of Hudson County Community College on the economy of Hudson County and beyond, and return on investment for the College鈥檚 graduates:

  • HCCC contributed $197.8 million in income to the Hudson County economy, the equivalent
    of 2,415 jobs.
  • Net impact of alumni employed in the county amounted to $126.8 million in added income.
    HCCC alumni most greatly impacted Hudson County鈥檚 Healthcare and Social Assistance, and Accommodation and Food industries, a reflection of the College鈥檚 highly successful and nationally recognized Nursing and Health Professions, and Culinary Arts and Hospitality Management programs.
  • As a result of their enrollment at HCCC during 2023-24, students increased their lifetime earnings by a total of $327.7 million, an average annual rate of return of 18.7%.
    This rate is 65% higher than one could expect by investing in the stock market.
  • For every $1 spent, students gained $5.90 in lifetime earnings, taxpayers gained $1.90 in tax revenue and public-sector savings, and society gained $6.40 in income and social savings.
  • HCCC operations added $67.3 million to Hudson County鈥檚 economy.
  • Construction spending provided $1.8 million to Hudson County.

This number will rise as the College proceeds with the construction of the new 11-story Center for Student Success on the Journal Square campus.

The study demonstrates that HCCC benefits Hudson County businesses by increasing consumer spending and supplying a steady flow of qualified, trained workers to the workforce. HCCC cultivates partnerships with local businesses; labor unions; local, county and state agencies; and educational institutions. The College acts as a springboard for academic transfer pathways and enables upward mobility for residents while strengthening local tax bases.
